“Saya bekerja di perusahaan riset di Singapura, klien kami dari UN, WHO dan kawan-kawannya. WWF juga pernah, Unicef juga sering, pokoknya anak kakinya UN, termasuk juga ASEAN. Kemudian teman-teman dari WHO sempat membuat peringatan, akan ada global pandemic dari China yang menjalar ke seluruh dunia,” ujar Koh Steven membuka pembicaraan.

“Januari saya masih umroh, tapi doktor-doktor di Saudi, teman saya, mengatakan, kalau kita (Saudi) begini terus akan terpapar juga, mendengar itu, aku balik ke Indonesia mau bikin masker dulu, ini (masker) bakalan langka, kalau dibilang induknya adalah MERS, berarti penularannya lewat droplet,” kata peraih gelar doktor di salah satu universitas di Arab Saudi itu.

Seketika kembali ke Indonesia, Koh Steven menjual salah satu rumahnya senilai Rp 5,5 M. Rumah itu ia jual cepat, dari harga Rp 7,7 M sesuai NJOP.

Begitu uang diterima, ia pun segera memesan alat produksi dan bahan baku masker dari Jepang.

“Kebetulan ayah saya masih CEO di property agent di Indonesia, sambil produksi masker, saya umroh lagi Februari, dan ternyata di Mekkah sudah ada rencana mengunci akses luar, ini sangat serius, masker yang telah diproduksi sendiri itu, saya timbun dulu, saat itu,” katanya.

Ia melihat ketika awal tahun 2020, pemerintah Indonesia masih belum menanggapi serius perihal COVID-19. Hal itu yang memicunya untuk segera mengambil langkah sedini mungkin, selain masker juga, ia membuat hazmat dan PPE yang mengikuti panduan dari WHO. Ia kembali mengimpor bahan baku dan menambah mesin.





“Saya taruh mesin di beberapa rumah, karena virus ini orang enggak boleh kumpul, makanya kita bagi beberapa titik, hal itu antisipasi andai ada satu keluarga yang terinfeksi, kita akan sediakan bahan makanan dua bulan bagi mereka, mesinnya kita ambil dan sterilisasi hingga kita bisa produksi lagi,” ujar ayah empat anak ini.

Saat gejala virus Corona nampak, Koh Steven bersama Mualaf Center Indonesia kemudian membagi-bagikan ratusan ribu masker medis – non medis 3 ply, surgical gown, faceshield, hazmat dan PPE kepada petugas yang bekerja di garda terdepan penanganan COVID-19, dan juga masyarakat umum.

Merka harus melihat inilah Islam, ini yang diajarin dalam Islam, ini yang diajarkan Allah dan rasulnya, ini yang bener rahmat buat semua orang, kita enggak ada tendensius apa-apa,” ucapnya melanjutkan.

Awalnya, Koh Steven enggak diliput oleh media. Namun, hingga suatu ketika seorang wartawan yang kenalannya meyakinkan nya agar apa yang dilakukannya bisa diduplikasi oleh lebih banyak orang.

“Dia meyakinkan saya, katanya kalau hanya ditampilkan di Instagram, orang yang berpotensi mengikuti hanya sebatas yang di IG saja, tapi kalau ini masuk ke media, mungkin jutaan orang bisa sama-sama saling bantu,” katanya.
