Dilansir dari Detik.com (14/04/2020), ketika memutuskan untuk mudik ke Indonesia, Gery memilih untuk pulang ke rumah istrinya, Dewi Rosa, yang terletak di Dusun Kopensari, Desa Rejoagung, Kecamatan Ploso, Jombang.

Karena memiliki riwayat bepergian dari negara yang terjangkit COVID-19 cukup parah, Gery harus menjalani masa karantina selama 14 hari, dimulai dari Selasa (7/4/2020).

Gery kemudian dikarantina di sebuah ruang Unit Kesehatan Sekola (UKS) SD Negeri Rejoagung. Di tempat itu, dia menjadi satu-satunya orang yang dikarantina.


Baru memasuki hari keempat karantina, yakni pada Sabtu (11/4/2020), dia memutuskan kabur pada pukul 20.00 WIB dini hari.

"Dia kabur karena ketakutan. Kenyataannya saat dikarantina hari keempat, jam dua dini hari bangku sekolahan terbang. Dia spontan berlari. Penjaga sekolah digedor-gedor tidak bangun. Dia loncat pagar lari pulang sambil menangis," kata Paman Gery, Sugiarto (65) kepada wartawan di kantor Desa Rejoagung, Selasa (14/4/2020).

Karena pengalaman mistis itulah, kata Sugiarto, Gery menolak untuk dikarantina di SDN Rejoagung. Keponakannya itu memilih melakukan karantina mandiri di rumah.

"Setelah itu dia diminta membuat pernyataan siap karantina mandiri di rumah. Alhamdulillah kondisinya sekarang baik di rumah," lanut Sugiarto.

Kejadian itu juga telah dikonfirmasi Kepala Desa Rejoagung Sugeng, yang mengatakan bahwa Gery kabur dari tempat karantina setelah mendapatkan pengalaman mistis.

"Katanya ketakutan jam dua malam lari pulang karena merasa barang-barang di sekitarnya melayang sendiri. Katanya tempat tidur di dalam ruang karantina terbang sendiri," terang Sugeng.

Lebih lanjut Sugeng menuturkan bahwa sebelumnya Gery juga sempat diisolasi di Italia. Lalu karena dinyatakan positif terjangkit virus corona, dia lantas dipulangkan ke Indonesia setelah dinyatakan sembuh.

Sampai di Bali, Gery menjalani kembali menjalani karantina selama 14 hari. Karena kondisinya sehat dan negatif corona, dia diizinkan pulang ke Jombang.


"Saat awal datang di sini kondisinya sudah sehat, sudah diperiksa oleh petugas dari RSUD Ploso (Jombang), tapi kami karantina sebagai kewaspadaan," jelasnya.

Sugeng juga menceritakan tentang asal muasal lahan yang sekarang dijadikan gedung SDN Rejoagung tersebut. Sebelumnya gedung sekolah itu pernah menjadi pabrik gula pada masa kolonial Belanda. Setelah Indonesia merdeka, lahan bekas pabrik itu terbengkalai sehingga menjadi rawa dan semak belukar.

Sejak Sugeng kecil, lahan tersebut memang sudah dikenal angker oleh warga setempat. Baru sekitar tahun 1964, gedung SDN Rejoagung dibangun di atas lahan tersebut.

"Saat saya kecil, warga sini bau tanaman bunga saja sudah kabur. Ada kolam ikan di dalamnya, yang berani mencuri pasti dihantui," tandasnya.
