Kapolres Pasuruan Kota AKBP Dony Alexander mengatakan, aksi SP diketahui dari kamera CCTV di toko tersebut.

Setelah melihat kamera CCTV, sambungnya, pihaknya langsung mencari dan menemukan SP.

SP kemudian langsung dibawa ke Mapolres Pasuruan Kota untuk diminta keterangan.

Kepada polisi, SP mengaku nekat mencuri beras di toko tersebut karena kesulitan ekonomi. Penghasilannya sebagai tukang becak terhenti karena pandemi Covid-19.

“Diakui memang karena kelaparan, tidak mempunyai uang sama sekali akhirnya dia mencuri beras tersebut,” kata Dony melalui sambungan telepon, Senin (11/5/2020).

Karena alasan tersebut, pemilik toko juga memaafkan perbuatan pelaku.

Dony mengatakan, dia tidak menahan SP karena alasan kemanusiaan. Apalagi di tengah pandemi Covid-19 saat ini banyak orang yang membutuhkan bantuan.

“Memang pandemi ini pasti banyak yang terdampak secara ekonomi. Apalagi yang bersangkutan tukang becak. Saya lihat dari sisi kemanusiaannya, saya pikir pemerintah pun akan tergerak hatinya untuk memberikan bantuan. Apalagi dasar dia mencuri atas dasar memberi makan keluarganya,” ujar Dony.

Polisi kemudian mendatangi rumah SP di Kelurahan Randusari, Kecamatan Gading Rejo, Kota Pasuruan.

“Kemudian ada tim saya yang mengecek ke rumahnya. Memang betul yang bersangkutan ini adalah bekerjanya tukang becak, dan kebetulan memang terhimpit ekonomi,” katanya.
