MAKASSAR, KOMPAS.com – Saat awan berbentuk gelombang tsunami atau awan cumulonimbus menggulung di langit Kota Makassar, lima pesawat yang hendak mendarat di Bandara Internasional Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar harus menunggu cuaca mulai membaik.

Kelima pesawat tersebut terpaksa berputar-putar di ruang udara Makassar hingga 20 menit, barulah bisa mendarat saat cuaca mulai membaik.

Hal itu disampaikan oleh General Manager AirNav Indonesia cabang Makassar Air Traffic Service Centre (MATSC) Novy Pantaryanto saat dikonfirmasi Kompas.com, Rabu (2/1/2019). 

“Saat awan cumulonimbus menggulung di langit Kota Makassar, Selasa (1/1/2019) sore, ada lima pesawat mengalami penundaan mendarat di Bandara Internasional Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar. Sehingga, pesawat itu berputar-putar terlebih dahulu di atas sekitar 15 hingga 20 menit lalu mendarat setelah cuaca mulai membaik,” ungkap Novy. 

Novy mengatakan, awan berbentuk gelombang tsunami tersebut merupakan awan yang sangat berbahaya.

Di dalam gumpalan awan cumulonimbus itu terdapat partikel-partikel petir, es dan lain-lainnya yang sangat membahayakan bagi penerbangan.

Awan cumulonimbus inilah yang paling dihindari oleh pilot, karena di dalam awan itu juga terdapat pusaran angin.

“Sangat mengerikan itu awan cumulonimbus. Kalau kita liat angin puting beliung, ekor angin itu ada di dalam awan cumulonimbus. Awan ini juga dapat membekukan mesin pesawat, karena di dalamnya terdapat banyak partikel-partikel es. Terdapat partikel petir dan sebagainya di dalam awan itu,” terangnya.

Meski awan cumulonimbus dianggap membahayakan bagi penerbangan, kata Novy, pihaknya telah mempunyai alat radar cuaca pada rute penerbangan yang bisa melacak cuaca hingga radius 100 KM.

Oleh karna itu, jika terlihat awan cumulonimbus pada radar, pihaknya langsung menyampaikan hal itu dan pilot akan membelokkan pesawat hingga 15 derajat. 

“Tidak ada pilot yang berai menembus awan cumulonimbus. Jadi kita mempunyai radar cuaca dan berkoordinasi dengan BMKG, sehingga data dari BMKG yang diperoleh terkait cuaca buruk akan disampaikan kepada pilot. Jadi cuaca buruk yang terjadi, aman bagi lalu lintas penerbangan,” terangnya.

Novy menambahkan, awan cumulonimbus berada diketinggian 1.000 hingga 15.000 kaki. Sehingga untuk penerbangan 30.000 hingga 40.000 kaki aman bagi pesawat.

“Jadi lalu lintas penerbangan aman, jika ada cuaca buruk yang mengancam,” tambahnya.
