Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG) menemukan retakan baru di lereng Gunung Anak Krakatau. Retakan itu dikhawatirkan bakal menimbulkan tsunami susulan di pesisir Selat Sunda. 

Kepala BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati menyebutkan, retakan itu terlihat saat ada pemantauan pada 30 Desember 2018. Posisi retakan ada di lereng yang relatif arah utara hingga selatan. Saat dipantau, retakan itu belum menyambung. 

"Dikhawatirkan kalau terjadi erupsi lagi yang masih belum menyambung itu bisa semakin memanjang lurus menyambung, akibatnya bidang lemah (di lereng gunung) bisa roboh masuk ke laut," kata Dwikorita saat dihubungi, Rabu (2/1). 

Hanya saja, besaran materi yang mungkin longsor akibat retakan baru ini lebih kecil ketimbang sebelumnya. Longsoran lereng Gunung Anak Krakatau yang diduga menyebabkan tsunami pada 22 Desember 2018 volumenya mencapai 90 juta meter kubik. Sedangkan retakan baru ini, diperkirakan bisa menyebabkan longsoran bervolume 60,7 juta meter kubik. 

Temuan ini diharapkan Dwikorita membuat masyarakat tetap waspada, tapi tidak perlu ketakutan. Pasalnya, selain volume longsoran diperkirakan lebih kecil dari yang diduga menyebabkan tsunami, aktivitas erupsi Gunung Anak Krakatau juga semakin berkurang.
